18 Months!

Eighteen months!  Wow!  For some reason 18 months seems so much older than 17 months.  The girls seem older too.  Maybe it is because I'm not with them all day every day like I used to be, but they seem to be changing daily.  They have learned a ton of new words and both are starting to use them to communicate what they want.  The best (and worst) part of being a working mama is getting to come home to new little girls who have learned something amazing while I was away.

The big news for 18 months is that Reese is a walking machine!!!!!!!!!  She is so much happier now that she can keep up with the older kids.  Once she decided she was ready, she went from standing to running!  There is no stopping her now!

Michaela is putting words together into phrases and answers clearly with "yes" or "no" when you ask her questions.  So stinkin' cute to see her run up to me with her little arms stretched high and say "up peeaazzzeee!"

Blair took the girls to Charelston to visit their cousins for the Cooper River Bridge Run.  I had to stay behind to work, but it was good bonding time for Blair, the girls, and their family.  I was so so so glad to have them home!

The girls have really discovered each other in the past month.  Funny how it has taken all this time.  They say hi to each other constantly and point to one another and say "my baby!!" You haven't seen cute until you see these two giving each other bedtime hugs and kisses and waiving "bye bye" as we carry them off to their rooms.

Our nanny continues to be a Godsend, and I remain employed.  It is crazy, but it is working.  Healthy girls, and a somewhat balanced life…life is good.

We love you baby girls!!!

The Next Chapter

After 17 months at home with my little loves (minus those three weeks I went back to my last job…), I have gone back to work full time.

I spent several months working from home, and it.was.not.working!  Trying to juggle the girls, the house, and clients without steady childcare was just too much.  After a lot of soul searching, and a few panic attacks, we decided that I would look for a job.

I found an interesting position the website of a former employer.  I reached out to a few contacts and a few weeks later I found myself sitting in the lobby in a new suit with a new hair cut, waxed eyebrows, and a manicure and hoping that I didn't have peanut butter in my hair as I waited for the interview to begin.

I got the job and it just felt right.  We found a wonderful nanny who has made this transition far easier than I had expected.  The girls love her, and I love that they have another person in their lives that can love them and bring them new perspectives and culture.

I miss the girls terribly throughout the workday, but my time at home with them is spent focusing 100% on them.  So while I have less time, I have more quality time…even if they are far more interested in the contents of my purse and briefcase than they are in my smothering attention. It's not easy, but being a parent is not easy- working or not.  It's just a different batch of challenges, but overall I know that we are doing the right thing.

And now, for the real reason you read this blog:

Thank you for our outfits Aunt Tracey!
