The Hoyt's are Home!

Oh my goodness!!!  We were actually home for a weekend.  We have had so much fun traveling, tailgating, and partying over the past few weeks, but honestly, I was a little burnt out.  Having a weekend at home has been heavenly!

We  had a yummy date night at The Cajun Experience on Friday night.  Saturday brought a golf lesson for me in the morning, followed by some VT football in the afternoon, and our neighbors' house warming party later in the evening.  We were a little embarrassed to be meeting our "new" neighbors because they have been in their house for over two months...oops.  Neighbors of the year, right here!

Blair played golf this morning and I headed to church and lunch with my folks.  It was really nice quality time with them.  The church opened with a welcome hymn from the little kids in the congregation.  Seeing those sweet little monkeys sing at the top of their little lungs absolutely melted my heart.  (Dear maternal clock, please unplug yourself.  I have more cool stuff to do. Thanks!) After church, Mom and I hit up the mall where she totally spoiled me with some new boots and dress :)  My parents really are so overwhelmingly generous.  I can only hope I can one day return all they do for us.  Finally, Blair and I rounded out the day with a delicious steak dinner....and we had dessert while I read Self magazine.  What?  That's not weird, right?....

A weekend at home has been blissful and I feel very rejuvenated, which is a good thing, because next weekend is Allison's wedding!!!

Happy birthday to our two favorite princesses, sweet little Alexa and Kevin Gallagher :)

Running on Stupid

So I decided to go running today so I would have something funny to blog about...

I may have a few talents up my sleeve, but all of them seem to escape me when I run.  Here's the rundown, which starts last night at bedtime:

1) Set alarm so I can get up early and get to the gym for my first run since I injured myself back in the spring (clearly I have a great track record).
2) Woke up about 50 times during the night because I was worried I would sleep in and miss my run.  Seriously, who does that for a Monday morning treadmill run?  This girl, that's who.  Stupidity #1
3) Make it to the gym a little early.  Put on my super awesome Garmin GPS running device that I love.  Stupidity #2- I don't really need a GPS device when I am running on a treadmill.  Was I worried I would get lost??
4)Forget to turn on said GPS device, so I ran the entire time in the same spot, not having my handy device tell me that I was in the same spot.  Stupidity #3
5) Manage to run all 6 miles at 8:49 pace.  This leaves me feeling proud of myself and accomplished for approximately 1 hour.
6) Proceed through the work day gimping along like sasquatch because I am horribly sore and potentially broken from running in place for 53 minutes with a GPS device that wasn't turned on.  Stupidity #4
7) I am now leaving to go to go buy new running shoes from the running store, where ironically I will receive a discount because I am a patient of the physical therapist office that I went to when I was injured from... running!! Ah, it all comes full circle. Stupidity #5

I am sure there will be more blogs on this topic in the future.  Cheers to all!

So Thankful

I spent this weekend in Dewey Beach celebrating my dear friend, Allison and her dwindling "single" status.  I had so much fun spending the weekend with old friends and new ones.  I left early to get home to prepare for a BBQ we were hosting this afternoon for my parents, Blair's parents, his Aunt Donna and Uncle Bill, cousins Jonathan and Melanie and their three girls, cousin Kaitie, cousins Christopher (in spirit) and Molly and two of their lovely girls.

As we hustled around preparing and later enjoyed a fun evening with our family in our home, I am so thankful.  I am thankful for the men and women who have been and are willing to give their lives so that I may have mine.  I am thankful for the husbands, wives, children, parents and siblings who keep the home fires burning for them.  I am thankful for the emergency response crews who act bravely in hopes of helping those in need.

Why hello Fall, it has been a while

Labor Day weekend...sigh.  Typically Labor Day is my absolute least favorite day of the year.  Yes, I do get the day off of work, and it is typically filled with bbq's and fun...but it is also the official end to summer, and that makes me very sad.

However, this year is a little different.  Maybe it's the optimism of being a newly wed (I can still use that term for 2 more months), but I am actually looking forward to what lies ahead this fall.  Football kicked off with a tremendous (and in my opinion, slightly embarrassing) Hokie win on Saturday and a great tailgate with Blair and his folks.  On Sunday we celebrated Nana's birthday, and more importantly, the end of the very long road of surgery to deal with breast cancer.  Needless to say, this birthday was a little more special than most.

So bring on Fall!

Hokie Football!

More on the lovely people that made this delicious cake coming in my Local Loves Blog...yum!!
